Yes, Richmond, the Byrd Theatre is open!

What a Covid year its been! We sadly closed in March, 2020 and then in August, 2020, we excitedly began welcoming patrons back into the theatre. We reopened with primarily private movie parties until December, 2020 when we held our limited seating holiday movie screenings.

Since February, 2021, we have been offering a mix of public screenings and private movie parties. Screenings have included both classic big screen favorites and some newer releases. We have added a Wednesday morning series this summer to bring the kids to!

Public screenings are limited seating to allow for social distancing. We have slowing increased the seating capacity as the Governor has eased restrictions and we felt comfortable for our staff and our patrons. As of May 28th, we’ll be allowing patrons to find their own seats and choose how much distance to have between them, but will still be blocking off every other row to ensure some distance.

We’ve also been cleaning and upgrading our HVAC system and our ductwork to ensure the air quality is safe and clean. We found and use a Covid cleaner on all our seats and touchpoints and bathrooms as well. Even though the Governor has eased mask requirements, we are still asking everyone to continue to mask.

Look out for concessions to be open again in the beginning of June. All your candy, popcorn and soda favorites. We even have our ABC license now – so that means wine & beer too!

We continue to monitor the CDC, VDH and the Governor’s recommendations and make the best decisions we can for our patrons and our staff. Thank you all for loving the Byrd Theatre and we can’t wait to see you at the movies!!
