A Message from the President

By Grant Mizell @g24nt · On December 15, 2016

Thank you!

We can’t thank you enough for your loyal support of the Byrd Theatre! Your gifts and patronage are helping to revitalize the Byrd as a film center where audiences share a wide variety of films that enrich their lives.

This year, you’ve helped us expand programming, improve service and build new audiences.  We’ve installed a new point of sale system that enables credit cards, online ticketing, and will allow us to better serve the community. In 2017, look for these additional strategic developments at the theatre.

  • Classic films every Wednesday and one Sunday a month.
  • Film and humanities experts will lead audience discussions.
  • Starting January 1, 2017, a new pricing structure will enable increased financial sustainability. Tickets will be $4 for second run and Family Classics, and $5 for all others. New prices will include a $1 facilities fee.
  • For the first time, the theatre will become fully accessible to audiences with physical disabilities.
  • We’ll start replacing seats section by section, beginning with the center section on the first floor.

Have a wonderful season, and please join us this month for some great holiday movies.

Vice President & Programming Chair, Byrd Theatre Foundation –– The Byrd Theatre is absolutely exquisite, inside and out. As grand as any cathedral we have in Virginia – which may have played a role in my decision for getting married there in 2010. Beyond that, the Byrd is a physical manifestation of the Arts at its finest. It's a celebration of early cinema and it's nod to many traditions of stage theatre. In a day where multiplexes rule, I want nothing more than to see this 1928 experience and appreciation of film passed on to future generations.
